The goal of “L.I.F.E in color” is to be able to print our class materials in color. The L.I.F.E (Learning Independent Functional Employment) Program provides an authentic structured work-study internship for students with special needs between the ages of 18-22. In addition to gaining job skills in the community, our day begins with an Introduction to Entrepreneurship course. During this time, our interns explore their potential as entrepreneurs and develop the skills necessary to start and operate a coffee shop with assistance. The color printer will aid in creating more engaging educational support materials for our program.

What will be done with my students

Interns will develop and analyze customer surveys to generate a menu, create promotional flyers, and print loyalty punch cards. They will learn numerous marketing and computer skills while enhancing their class business. Color graphs versus black and white graphs are more engaging and easier to read, which leads to better retention. Menus, flyers, punch cards and other educational support materials printed in color are more aesthetically appealing to potential customers and look more professional.
The printer will also be used to generate interns’ worksite evaluations. The color will allow us to highlight their present levels and create goals for progression. Once they master a goal, the new present level will be highlighted in color, providing them a colorful visual as they strive towards their goals.

Benefits to my students

The color printer will benefit my interns in numerous ways. They will be provided with easier to read educational support materials. They will gain numerous marketing and computer skills as they create menus, promotional flyers, and loyalty punch cards. They will also be able to read and interpret colorful graphs. Interns will be given a vibrant visual as they progress towards their learning goals. They will also earn colorful certificates throughout the year. Bringing color to the L.I.F.E. program will benefit students for many years to come.
