My goal is to foster a love of reading in all of my students, helping them to become lifelong readers and learners. I believe that when students develop a passion for reading, they gain the foundation for continuous learning, curiosity, and growth throughout their lives. My hope is to inspire each of my 5th graders to explore the endless possibilities that reading offers.

What will be done with my students

I want all of my students to have each of the 15 SSYRA books available to them in our classroom library. The Sunshine State Young Readers Award (SSYRA) Program is a statewide reading motivational program for students in grades 3 through 8. The SSYRA Program is encourages students to read independently for pleasure and to read books that are on, above, and below their reading level in order to improve their reading fluency. The books are chosen for their appeal, literary value, genres, connections to the curriculum, and multicultural representation. My students are encouraged to read all 15 books, but reading, at least 3, allows them to vote for their favorite in the spring. To keep the students motivated, there are friendly competitions & challenges provided both in the classroom as well as schoolwide.

Benefits to my students

Reading is incredibly important because it opens up a world of knowledge and imagination, helping to create a lifelong love of learning in children. When kids develop a passion for reading, they gain the tools to explore new ideas, build critical thinking skills, and foster creativity. I love encouraging my kids to read daily and watching their love for learning grow.

Budget Narrative
