Goal

My students will listen to fiction and nonfiction paired science read aloud books and participate in hands on STEM activities that correlate with each of following concepts: gravity, water, and landforms.

Category

Learning Aids - Sunshine state book sets, robotics kits, puzzle boards, science models, engineering supplies, etc.

What will be done with my students

I will use the lesson plans from the Picture Perfect STEM teacher resources as a guide. These follow the 5Es (engage, explore, explain, elaborate, evaluate). Students will listen to the paired science picture books that align with first grade goals. Throughout these lessons, students participate in a variety of activities that will enhance their reading comprehension as well as give them opportunities to apply what they have learned from these books to STEM activities.

Benefits to my students

Students love listening to read aloud books, and they love science and STEM activities. Reading comprehension is embedded in the lessons and students will enjoy digging deeper into these science concepts with these hands on lessons. Since they will be listening to the books and will be engaging and exploring the concepts together, they will receive the background knowledge needed to have success as they interact with these concepts.

Budget Narrative

The budget includes the two picture books (one fiction and one nonfiction) for each topic. It also includes the materials needed for the STEM activities.
