The Early Childhood students at Seacrest Country Day School feel like big kids when they enter the gym for their P.E. classes. This grant request is to purchase tricycles and safety helmets to provide the youngest Seacrest sports enthusiasts with opportunities to ride tricycles independently.

Physical Education Equipment - Rackets, bats, balls, nets, jump ropes, etc.

What will be done with my students

Learning to confidently and independently ride a tricycle is an important developmental skill. While many students have experience using tricycles, some do not. Adding tricycle riding practice in Early Childhood P.E. classes is an important goal for ensuring these youngest Seacrest learners have a well-rounded physical education experience.

Benefits to my students

Riding a tricycle develops gross motor skills, such as balance, coordination, and muscle strength. The students learn to adeptly pedal, steer, and navigate a moving vehicle. Cognitive skills, such as planning and following a route and maintaining safe travel, are enhanced through riding practice. Social skills are an important component of tricycle riding. The students may have to wait to share turns with the tricycles. Riding tricycles together with friends encourages camaraderie and conversation--and maybe a little good competition!

Budget Narrative

The tricycles and helmets will be purchased by Seacrest through School Specialty and Amazon via purchase order utilizing grant funds. The items will be tax-exempt.
