What will be done with my students

The students will have daily opportunities to work and play in the Engineering Center. They will use their imaginations, spatial reasoning, planning, problem-solving skills, and fine motor dexterity to create buildings, communities, and habitats with the unit blocks and various accessories. Students will learn to document their work, developing essential literacy skills as they write about the design and purpose of their structures.

Benefits to my students

Students benefit from an engaging block center where they work cooperatively and creatively to construct structures and interactive play scenarios. The students develop cross-curricular STEM skills. They strengthen math skills through spatial reasoning and structural analysis. Science concepts are reinforced and extended through reinterpreting environments and habitats. Engineering skills, such as structural competency and balance are explored. Creativity and artistic expression are evidenced. Additionally, important social-emotional skills are developed as students collaborate and compromise to plan, negotiate, and construct.
