The goal of this program is to teach the basic life skill of shoe tying and to build confidence and character in students. The goal is for students to learn how to tie their shoes, not fear learning how to tie their shoes or fear asking for help when tying shoes because they will have this skill taught to them. This will also allow students to teach others, helping fill another student’s "bucket" with pride and confidence. This grant goal will also support students’ personal goals as they develop and become leaders in school, at home and in our community. Not to mention, it is a lesson in kindness when helping others. We want students to know that, when they are ready, they can switch from Velcro to laces in no time!

What will be done with my students

Students will engage in lessons taught by myself (School Counselor) and/or Student (Leadership) Ambassadors in a variety of ways based on the needs of the students and/or classes. Students will be part of the "Shoe Tying Club" and can be taught and can practice as seen in the attached photo. For primary grades (Kinder, 1st, 2nd) I will teach a whole class (group) lesson on Shoe Tying. In addition, I will support students in intermediate grades (3rd, 4th & 5th) based also on individual student/class need.

Benefits to my students
