What will be done with my students

With quick access to color printers/ink, the speech and language pathologists will be able to readily create and distribute essential visual supports such as picture schedules, communication books/boards and other interactive materials to help our most needy students thrive in the classroom.

Benefits to my students

Palmetto Elementary School serves a diverse group of students, including those in our Pre-K Disabilities Class, Intensive Behavior Intervention classes as well as our Modified Curriculum Classes. A majority of our students in these special programs exhibit significant challenges with verbal communication skills and rely on visual supports to help them communicate their basic wants and needs. Picture schedules, visuals for communication books/boards, and interactive materials are developed and provided throughout the school year to support our students. The requested items in this grant will allow easier access to printing these visual supports to help facilitate better communication and engagement in the classroom. While PLE provides shared access to color printers, they are not readily available in the 2 SLPs' offices. The reliance on shared printers often results in delays which impact the timely delivery of essential materials for our students. A dedicated personal color printer for our two SLP offices would allow for immediate production of visuals as needed. The ability to quickly produce these visual materials will significantly enhance the effectiveness of individualized speech and language interventions for our students.

Budget Narrative

We're requesting color laser printers because they are equipped to print more pages at a given time, and built to print more efficiently than standard ink jet printers.
