Goal

My goal is to actively engage with students. Having the ability to project a lesson to the whiteboard and teach the lesson as I walk around the classroom increases student engagement. Not only do I not have to turn my back to the room as I write, but I can monitor student work as teaching occurs.

What will be done with my students

Currently, I project a lesson from my laptop to the board. As this is a math class, frontal instruction is the main mode for learning. Therefore, I review concepts, then we practice problems. I am tied to the board at the moment, and only pauses in instruction allow me to circulate around the room.
As I assess student learning formatively, this will also give me the chance to call one student to the board to answer a question, while I work with another student who may be struggling.

Benefits to my students

Students want to be engaged...even if they are not a fan of the content. They appreciate eye content from a teacher, as well as the discussion that can come from a new topic. Having the ability to circulate around the room as I teach will allow for more fruitful discussion as the lesson continues. For students who are struggling, I can stop and make small adjustments as necessary throughout the lesson. For students who need encouragement and focus, I will more quickly notice when their attention wanes and be able to draw them back in.

Budget Narrative

The iPad is necessary for the projection to the board and the pencil is necessary to complete lessons in real time. The keyboard is less important, but allows for the ability to edit and create lessons on the iPad, rather than always using the school laptop. However, an iPad can sync to my Google Drive so all lessons are accessible that way.
