What will be done with my students

Our Leader in Me Club will meet monthly to replant, harvest and care for the garden. Students will pick veggies to make salads and salsa. We will continue a Kindness Act by paying it forward with seeds for others to plant at home.

Benefits to my students

Zero screen time and lots of learning about nature! Students will increase their knowledge and vocabulary. We want students to develop a love for nature and an opportunity for them to experience garden and insect life cycles. Also, the garden area is next to our PE pavilion. As 1 of the PE teachers, students may water the garden instead of running/walking laps. This is especially powerful if a students is having a "rough" day and needs some calming time. It brings me so much joy to have students tell me that their family is starting a little garden at home!

Budget Narrative

We have empty garden containers ready to be filled with soil and plants/seeds. We will be going to Naples Botanical Gardens this month for a teacher workshop to learn more about school gardens. Naples Botanical Gardens always promotes school gardens and gives us a lot of plants to bring back to school to plant with the students. We are grateful for their support.
