What will be done with my students

Students in the chess club will participate in weekly practice sessions where they can develop their skills through guided instruction and peer play. They will also engage in friendly competitions and tournaments, both within the school and with other local schools, to apply what they've learned in real-game situations. Additionally, students will have opportunities to mentor younger or less experienced players, fostering leadership and teaching skills.

Benefits to my students

Having a chess club at school provides students with a unique opportunity to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills in a fun, engaging way. Chess teaches strategic planning, patience, and the ability to think several steps ahead, all of which are essential life skills. Additionally, the club fosters a sense of community and inclusion, bringing together students of different backgrounds and skill levels in a collaborative environment. Through regular practice and competition, students also learn valuable lessons in sportsmanship and perseverance.

Budget Narrative

These chess boards, timers, and books will not only provide game boards for our current members to play, but it will also give us more space to include more members. We would like to eventually open it up to our 3rd-5th grades.
