Our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students learn to play various instruments. By having the music stands the students will learn at a faster rate by having instructional materials right in front of them. This will reinforce everything that has been taught in the beginning of instruction where the initial focus of instruction was basically learning how to hold an instrument with good posture. The more that they learn, the more they will enjoy music!

What will be done with my students

When students begin to play instruments at Lake Park Elementary School, in the beginning they are taught in a "rote" style of teaching. We focus on holding the instrument correctly and using good posture. As we progress, the students transition to reading music and playing the instrument at the same time. Unfortunately in the past, the students had to sit on the floor and have music placed in front of them. Not only was it difficult to try to read the music, it also developed poor playing positions which resulted in undoing part of the original instruction. By having the music stands we will be able to continue with the positive instruction and outcomes which are desired and not give or sacrifice something in another area that the students should be able to build upon.

Benefits to my students

These products will be a great aid to the students. The students will be able to build upon the basic instruction they received in the beginning of starting an instrument as they transition to reading musical notation. Not only will this help them at Lake Park Elementary School, it will help them throughout their musical careers at other grade levels. I believe the students will also learn to respect not just the equipment itself, but also see that this is something to be taken seriously and requires their best effort.

Budget Narrative

These are medium priced music stands that offer durability and long lasting use. The storage cart reduces the amount of space to store the music stands when not in use and will keep the music stands in good condition. This is a good priced cart and should be purchased with the music stands.
