We have many goals we hope to reach through our Family Events at GVM. Primarily, we want to educate parents so they are better equipped to take an active role in their child's education. The role of the parent is a necessary one when discussing a student's academic, behavioral, and social growth. We know that a partnership between school and home will always be the best way to make sure the students of Collier County are ready and able to truly make a difference in our world. We also know that many parents do not feel equipped to do this, either because they are overwhelmed with their responsibilities, do not have experience in taking this active role, or because they themselves had a negative experience is school as a student. We hope to meet those needs through our events, making sure that every parent and family is strengthened and ready to help their student achieve his or her very best.

What will be done with my students

These events will be aimed at providing all the necessary tools for parents to both attend the event and to gain much from it. We will be providing dinner at no cost to the families as well as asking our National Junior Honor Society students to work with younger children during that time. We do this so that no matter what barriers a parent may face in taking an active role in their student's education, we can help alleviate those to give them the best chance at a helping their child have a successful middle school experience, ultimately setting our students up for greater future success.

Benefits to my students

We believe as educators and know from research that when there is a strong relationship between parents and the school, students just do better. This reaches into their academics, behavior, social, and emotional well being. By strengthening this bond and helping parents develop a core belief that schools are here to help, we know our community will be strong, as well.

Budget Narrative

We would like to provide dinner for the families that attend at no cost. We will be serving pizza, salad, and breadsticks.
