Champions For Learning’s Classroom Grants program aims to provide teachers with funding for supplies, school-wide projects, classroom items, and enrichment activities not included in the school’s budget. According to the National Education Association, more than 90% of teachers spend an average of $500 of their own money each year to purchase school supplies and other items their students need to succeed in the classroom.
Individuals, organizations, and businesses have an exciting opportunity to invest in the great ideas of our local educators, who are creating amazing learning experiences in their classrooms that will impact students for years to come. My goal is to create an excitement for reading for 6th grade students at Golden Gate Middle School. I want to create a positive reading incentive program that motivates students to reach their goals on the Lexia reading program.
Lexia Reading is a program for our students whose reading achievement is below the proficient level. The program provides phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension instruction. Lexia helps students work independently to develop their critical reading skills through individualized, motivating learning paths.

The Village Oaks Elementary School Related Arts Team is constantly striving to better serve all types of young learners and creating a variety of classroom settings that help students become Wild About Learning! The 2024-25 Village Oaks Related Arts Team wishes to further incorporate math, sight-word literacy, and movement into our four areas of discipline. (Music, Physical Education, Art, and Technology). The Related Arts Team goal is to help improve, and or maintain our commitment to supporting the Village Oaks A+ achievement status. The Math & Movement Training Manual for K-5 Educators is exactly what the Related Arts team is looking for to further professionally promote our team’s multi-sensory approach to teaching and practicing math, and literacy skills. Both math and reading require right and left cross-brain functioning. What better way than an all in synergistic Related Arts Team effort to do just that! Our team approach system would incorporate and further design music, physical movement, art, and the use of technology lessons to create a multi-sensory approach to promote learning math, reading, and social positivity!

The goal of this program is to teach the basic life skill of shoe tying and to build confidence and character in students. The goal is for students to learn how to tie their shoes, not fear learning how to tie their shoes or fear asking for help when tying shoes because they will have this skill taught to them. This will also allow students to teach others, helping fill another student’s 'bucket' with pride and confidence. This grant goal will also support students’ personal goals as they develop and become leaders in school, at home and in our community. Not to mention, it is a lesson in kindness when helping others. We want students to know that, when they are ready, they can switch from Velcro to laces in no time!

In years past, I have been able to host “Self-Care Bingo” with staff members at SPE on holiday breaks that occur seasonally throughout the year; fall, winter and spring. While I would like to continue this for the staff at SPE this 2024-2025 school year, I would also like to start a new initiative called “Coffee with the Counselor.” “Coffee with the Counselor” will support my role as a School Counselor in connecting with teachers, faculty and staff, networking with outside organizations, and ensuring that all teachers feel happy, safe, and inspired to continue to work in one of the hardest, yet most reward professions, teaching! Telling time on an analog clock can be quite tricky for young students, especially now with the common use of digital clocks. Additionally, academic development Telling Time is a basic math skill that can help students understand more complex concepts like fractions, decimals, and measurements. Elementary students are typically introduced to analog clocks in kindergarten and or first grade, where they learn about the different hands, the numbers on the clock face, and how to read time. Telling time becomes more complex for 2nd and 3rd graders (ages 5-8) as they are introduced to more advanced concepts of time since the base numbering system is 60 instead 10-100. Finally, for the last two years every K-5 team leader asked our Health & Wellness Committee to search for a fun way to help our students learn & better understand the concepts of telling time. To achieve this goal, we are asking you to grant our request to purchase the Math & Movement Clock Hop Floor Mat.

I am requesting funding for a class set of the novel 'Bud, Not Buddy' by Christopher Paul Curtis. This engaging story not only captivates students' imaginations but also serves as a powerful tool for fostering literacy, empathy, and critical thinking in our classroom.
Project Goals:
Enhance Literacy Skills: The novel will improve students' reading comprehension, vocabulary, and fluency while utlizing the literary benchmarks and B.E.S.T. standards.
Promote Empathy and Understanding: Students will explore themes of family, resilience, and the historical context of the Great Depression, helping them develop a deeper understanding of diverse experiences.
Encourage Critical Thinking: Through discussions and assignments related to the book, students will learn to analyze plot development, character interactions, themes, and the author's purpose.

I would like to submit a request for a grant to fund the continuous study, observation and enjoyment of the butterflies on VME’s campus. I have been devoted to this “outside classroom” learning opportunity for years and have nurtured the habitat for the monarch butterfly, the Zebra Longwing and other Florida butterflies. I am committed to the upkeep and the continuous rotation/recycling of the plants, which are the food source and pollinator plants for the butterflies. Donations by families and other staff members happen occasionally. As this project has grown to a whole new level of interest, engagement and learning, so has the expense! The photo above is of just a small group of VME Campus Caretakers, who have taken on the leadership role of caring for the VME garden(s).

I believe learning and skill building can be done so effectively when it's incorporated into everyday life and activities. Can you think of a better way to teach Functional Life Skills than a family meal at your favorite restaurant? The skills used and practiced when dining in a restaurant are great practices for larger, more overarching life skills. Here are some ways a restaurant trip can be great skill practice for my Transition students:
1. Using socially aware behavior
2. Reading menus
3. Using decision-making skills
4. Speaking politely to waitstaff
5. Ordering food independently
6. Self regulation and waiting patiently
7. Using silverware correctly and appropriately
8. Eating appropriately and practicing good manners
9. Keeping the table and personal space tidy
10. Basic money skills and tip etiquette

We have many goals we hope to reach through our Family Events at GVM. Primarily, we want to educate parents so they are better equipped to take an active role in their child's education. The role of the parent is a necessary one when discussing a student's academic, behavioral, and social growth. We know that a partnership between school and home will always be the best way to make sure the students of Collier County are ready and able to truly make a difference in our world. We also know that many parents do not feel equipped to do this, either because they are overwhelmed with their responsibilities, do not have experience in taking this active role, or because they themselves had a negative experience is school as a student. We hope to meet those needs through our events, making sure that every parent and family is strengthened and ready to help their student achieve his or her very best.

I establish individualized, realistic expectations for my students and I would like to encourage them to keep trying and taking risks. When students attain a goal, they are given verbal praise but for some students extrinsic rewards are also helpful. This grant is a request for rewards for reading when literacy goals are attained.

The goal is to provide students with interactive dry erase whiteboards. Whiteboards improve learning through increased participation and collaboration among students. They provide an alternate method of learning (visual and auditory). Whiteboards are a tool to manage instruction so that students can construct their own knowledge and understanding from evidence. They are a quick and cost-effective way of assessing students and help in identifying students’ misconceptions. Whiteboards provide insight into the strengths and weaknesses of the class in understanding a particular concept or standard so that scaffolding can be provided.
This grant was originally funded in 2019. One hundred first grade students were given interactive dry erase whiteboards, markers, and erasers! Increased engagement, participation, motivation and collaboration among students was observed when students used the whiteboards during instruction. The whiteboards were used for whole class interactive lessons, reviewing concepts, guided practice, targeted help, small group interactive lessons, one-on-one instruction, and learning centers. Students love learning and writing on whiteboards! With the addition of students to first grade and repeated daily use of the boards, I am asking for funding to purchase new boards and markers.

One of the goals of this grant is to teach the interns to consistently wear a watch and learn how to independently tell time and manage their daily schedule by determining when to start in their departments, go to lunch, return to their training area, and then sign out for the day. Wearing a watch is a more professional method of telling time compared to using a cell phone and cell phone use is not permitted at the private club where we train.
The second goal of wearing the fitness tracking watch is to help the interns become more aware of their personal fitness and wellness by instructing them on how to count their steps. One of the employee benefits at Royal Poinciana Golf Club is a cash bonus each month as they make their step and fitness goals for at least 10 days out of the month. Increasing engagement in our struggling readers is an on-going problem. Middle school students who are reading below grade-level don't naturally gravitate towards books when they are looking for something fun to do Part of this could be because they don't come from print-rich homes with a variety of options for them to choose from. Another reason could be they are hesitant to select an independent book that their peers may see as 'babyish,' thus embarrassing them. I would like to provide a lending library to each of our three intensive classrooms that contain high-interest books that have lower lexiles, making them easier for struggling readers to read independently. The books will appear to be middle-school level, so students won't be embarrassed. However, they will be within the 3 - 5th grade lexile band making them appropriate for independent reading

The Goal of this grant is to improve communication skills of students in Modified Curriculum (MC) Classrooms and Pre-K D (Disability) classrooms by providing students with colored pictures to communicate. Many students in these classrooms have difficulty communicating basic needs such as the need to use the bathroom, asking for help, asking for food or drink, or requesting things they like. To help these students communicate more effectively, we use pictures alone or paired with an augmentative alternative communication device (AAC). These pictures are best utilized in color so that they more closely resemble the actual object or communication topic and are easier to discriminate (vs. black and white pictures).

Tracing a T-shirt's life story from a Texas cotton field to a Chinese factory and back to a U.S. storefront before arriving at the used clothing market in Africa, the book uncovers the political and economic forces at work in the global economy. Mirrors, Windows, and Sliding Glass Doors: A Collection of Prosocial Picture Books for PreK through 12th Grade Character Education
Books are sometimes windows, offering views of worlds that may be read or imagined, familiar or strange. These windows are also sliding glass doors, and readers have only to walk through in imagination to become part of whatever world has been created or recreated by the author. When lighting conditions are just right, however, a window can also be a mirror…and readers often seek their mirrors in books.
–Rudine Simms Bishop, 1990
Seacrest Country Day School (SCDS) is committed to whole-child education for all students from Prekindergarten through 12th Grade. Because Seacrest educators know that academic learning is contingent on social and emotional well-being, they are intent on integrating supportive interventions that promote the prosocial behavior of all students. The 2024-25 goal for SCDS is to ensure that the entire community from Prekindergarten through 12th Grade becomes well-versed in the intellectual understanding and practical application of the SCDS Core Values of kindness, respect, gratitude, empathy, perseverance, integrity, responsibility, cooperation, curiosity, and creativity. A character trait has been assigned to each month with age-appropriate discussions and learning activities presented at each grade level.
One essential learning activity is the exploration of children’s literature picture books. Although picture books are generally used with very young children, these books are often written with rich, sophisticated language on a myriad of relatable themes that can incite important shared inquiry discussions for students of all ages. Picture books with prosocial themes can serve as “mirrors, windows, and sliding glass doors” for students to view themselves as contributing members of a shared community. This grant request is for a collection of picture books that support the SCDS Core Values Education for students Prekindergarten through 12th Grade.

The Sunshine State Young Readers Award (SSYRA) Program is a statewide reading motivational program for students in grades 3 through 8. The purpose of the SSYRA Program is to encourage students to read independently for pleasure and to read books that are on, above, and below their reading level in order to improve their reading fluency. Sunshine State books are selected for their wide appeal, literary value, varied genres, curriculum connections, and/or multicultural representation. The SSYRA committee is comprised of 20 qualified school librarians located throughout the state of Florida, subdivided into two committees- grades 3-5 and grades 6-8.
Media specialists representing all districts across the state work with integrity and heart to curate great lists each year, with the goal for each and every one of Florida’s students to find three books they want to read and with which they can connect. That’s all it takes for students to vote for their favorites: read at least three and vote. We are especially proud of these lists, knowing they are for our students first and believe that students will find at least three to read this year. We know that not every book is for every student, but we want every student to have the chance to find the book they need, whether it be a window, a mirror, or a door to another world.

The goal is to promote Kindness, Acceptance and Inclusion among the students at Immokalee High School by encouraging them to join the Revolution for Inclusion. Inclusion helps everyone--in so many ways. It helps stop bullying & brings people together. More than 50 years ago, Special Olympics launched a global sports movement to break down barriers and end discrimination against people with intellectual disabilities. Since then, this peaceful revolution has been changing lives all around the world. Now Special Olympics has expanded their events to include Video Gaming, otherwise known as eSports (Electronic Sports). Immokalee students are invited to participate in eSports competition by forming a Unified Team (Partner + Special Olympic Athlete) to compete against other high schools across the country. 'The Revolution Is Inclusion'—and students are asked to be part of a powerful new generation that celebrates all differences, all abilities!

By providing a bulk set of high-quality, comfortable, and durable headphones, along with a few extras for new students, we can help our Kindergarteners feel prepared, successful, and HAPPY while they work independently on their laptops at school. One of our goals is to have students learn to be leaders in our school by promoting programs which are open to all of our students. New students in the community as well as our rising 6th grade students will feel a sense of security and belonging to our school through contact with our Ambassadors.

The goal is to provide a better flow and more mobility for the two CCPS Debate Coordinators by providing them with mobile workstations for running debate tournaments and coach/judges training sessions. These two teachers oversee the MS and HS debate competitions. Dr. Ramsay-Sinclair communicates with the 10 middle school debate coaches across the district. Dr. Gomez does the same for 7 high school debate coaches. As the teacher coordinators, they are responsible for all the pairings, setting up the rooms (at a different school location each time), training judges, assigning those judges, and physically running each of the debate rounds. These supplies will not only make their jobs easier, but they will allow the debate tournament process to run more smoothly. A mobile workstation would allow these teachers to quickly move from room to room addressing student, coach, or judging needs as they arise. The workstation would allow for faster tabulation of ballots resulting in quicker results to both coaches and students. The workstation would also hold a small white board for posting judge assignments and announcing room changes.

The purpose of the program is to assist high school second language learners in their development of reading, writing, and speaking skills. Through this project each language learner will study a successful immigrant who has achieved a professional goal similar to what the student would like to achieve. Over the course of several weeks, students will develop a biography about their 'hero', author their personal story, and then describe goals for their own futures. This grant will provide support materials in the form of biographies and second language learner success guides as well as materials for presentation boards for each student. The culminating activity will be presentations of their boards (My Hero-My Story-My Future) to classmates and invited guests. Research has shown that role models motivate second language learners, especially those with similar life experiences. This project gives high school English Language Learners the opportunity to read and write about those who have walked in similar shoes and have gone on to become leaders in their fields. If they see it, they believe it, and they can achieve it.

The Edison and Ford Winter Estates stand as a testament to the power of innovation and the impact of visionary thinking. As our students study Thomas Edison and Henry Ford, they learn about the transformative ideas that reshaped the world. Edison's assertion that “all progress, all success, springs from thinking” is a fundamental concept we aim to instill in our students. By visiting the estates, students will see how creativity and perseverance can lead to groundbreaking achievements and will gain a deeper appreciation for the history of technology and industry. The Edison and Ford Winter Estates offer a unique opportunity to explore the lives and inventions of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford, two of the most influential figures in American history. By visiting these estates, our students will gain firsthand knowledge of early 20th-century innovation, explore historical artifacts, and understand the impact of these pioneers on modern technology and industry.

Acquiring materials for an experiment with multiple trials and creating a board worthy of the student's ideas can be costly. It is my hope that we can assist students who need to purchase materials so they can fully participate and compete in our school science fair and hopefully go on to compete in our regional and state science fairs as well.

Students learn in all different ways. Here at PME, we strive to help all students learn to their fullest potential. Students who feel overwhelmed, stressed, or just need a simple coping skill sometimes need an outlet to channel their feelings. Using various fidgets, students would be able to help calm and satisfy their sensory needs therefore being able to go back to learning within the classroom. If each teacher had their own fidget box, they could create a space in their room to be used as needed to help kids. It has been seen to help on-task behavior, support attention, and lower stress levels.

Students will be introduced to a pioneer of the “Rock and Roll” movement of the 1950’s. My long-term goal is to introduce a new pioneer of “Rock and Roll” each school year. By the end of the project this year, students will be familiar with the history of the selected musician. They will appreciate that person’s contributions to rock music and other genres. Students will also be exposed to instruments that are physically and aurally similar to instruments used by the selected musician/band. The final lesson of this project allows students to perform a simplified arrangement of one of the musician’s popular songs on the instrument “replicas.”
The musician I have chosen for the 2024-2025 school year will be Buddy Holly. Buddy Holly was included in the first group of inductees to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He was the first rock performer to utilize and standardize the instrumentation of a lead guitar, rhythm guitar, bass guitar and percussion for rock bands of the 1950’s. Holly was also one of the first performers to experiment with double-tracking/overdubbing. He was a significant contributor to the creation of “popular” music by bridging the gap between blues, country and rock. Additionally, Holly has cemented his place of importance in music history by influencing many subsequent musicians. These include: The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Eddie Van Halen, Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, Pete Townshend, Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello and many others.

This project aims to create a dynamic and innovative learning environment that accommodates various learning styles and promotes active participation in classroom activities by integrating flexible seating options and under-the-desk elliptical machines.
The inspiration for this project came from a former and current student, who asked, 'Mrs. Sponseller, do you remember when I was in your 3rd-grade class and we had all that movement stuff? Why can’t we have that at high school?'
In 2017, the successful “Just Keep Moving” grant allowed me to purchase movement equipment for my classroom at Laurel Oak Elementary. The student, who was in my class that year, is now at Barron Collier High School, where I support her as an ESE Inclusion Teacher. Her question highlighted the need for movement-friendly classrooms beyond the elementary level, leading to the creation of the 'Active Minds' grant proposal.

Chemistry students often struggle with difficult subject matter. Throughout the year, they can lose interest or become disheartened as they tackle difficult concepts. Moreover, sophomore year is a pivotal year for students to learn who they are and what skills they have to offer the world. With this grant, I hope to provide a mini-professional development lesson to help students determine their strengths, and then afterwards use the assessment results to help them apply what they have learned to be leaders within the classroom and help choose extra-curriculars and form career goals based on what they have learned.

At Calusa Park Elementary, our mission is to turn curiosity into discovery. In our science lab, this starts from the ground up—literally. Our goal is to get a set of stools that will transform our science lab into an engaging, interactive learning space for our students.
Our current lab seating is outdated and uninspiring. New stools will encourage active participation, allowing students to move freely and comfortably as they explore, experiment, and collaborate. The stools will support hands-on activities and experiments that align with science standards for each grade. They’ll be the ideal height for young scientists to interact with lab materials, and will help us to reinforce core scientific principles and practices. Our school prioritizes creating an inclusive, engaging, and innovative learning environment. These stools will play a crucial role in meeting this goal by fostering a more interactive and inclusive lab experience.

At Oakridge Middle School, PBIS is an important tool for building a schoolwide culture centered around our three schoolwide behavior expectations: Be Respectful (The Golden Rule: Treat others the way you want to be treated.); Be Responsible (You are responsible for your actions and decisions.) and Prepared (Where am I supposed to be? When do I need to be there? What do I need while I am there?). Our goal as a school, based on year-to-year data analysis, is to reduce the overall number of discipline referrals by emphasizing positive behaviors and providing incentives to students for displaying those positive behaviors.

As the school counseling department, we aim to create immersive and engaging interactions with our students. We believe that implementing innovative tools like virtual reality (VR) will greatly benefit both our students and staff. By sparking students' imagination through VR experiences that make them feel as if they are truly there, we ensure that students remain engaged, motivated, and challenged throughout their high school years. Our goal is to provide both students and staff with new and exciting ways to experience learning, enhancing educational outcomes and promoting personal growth.
Additionally, we hope that this experience will not only deepen the connection between students and their counselors but also enhance relationships among the entire school staff. By fostering new connections across the staff in our visits to classrooms to speak with students, this tool can improve morale and contribute to greater success for our students.

I am the Agriscience teacher for Everglades City School. I repaired the existing Aquaculture system which was abandoned for several years, over a decade, I was told. I am writing this grant because we need more equipment for maintenance and operation of our current system. We also need to buy food for our fish and containers to store that food. Our goal is to raise Tilapia and have a Fish Fry near the end of the year. We want the Aquaculture program to be a teaching tool for other classes as well. We would like to participate in Aquaculture Career development events as well using the knowledge gained by our program.

The goal of this project is to enhance 7th-grade students' civic education and introduce entrepreneurship concepts by integrating the Nisei soldiers' legacy into the curriculum. By aligning with Florida's civics standards, the project aims to deepen students' understanding of government foundations, citizenship responsibilities, and historical impact while fostering historical empathy and civic engagement. Using Stacey Hayashi's manga and supplementary resources, students will explore the experiences and contributions of the Nisei soldiers, who overcame significant prejudice and poverty to become the most decorated unit in U.S. military history. This engagement will help students draw parallels between their own lives and the stories of these historical figures.
In addition, the project aims to introduce entrepreneurship principles by examining how Nisei soldiers utilized the GI Bill to become influential figures in their communities. This aspect of the curriculum will align with standards related to the role of citizens and the impact of individual contributions. By integrating these elements, the project seeks to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of civic responsibilities and entrepreneurial opportunities, preparing them to overcome their own challenges and make a positive impact in their communities.
Academic Standards:
SS.7.C.1.1: Recognize the different forms of government, including democracy, monarchy, and dictatorship.
SS.7.C.1.2: Trace the impact of the English legal system on the development of the United States government.
SS.7.C.2.1: Define the term 'citizen' and identify legal means of becoming a United States citizen.
SS.7.C.2.2: Evaluate the obligations citizens have to obey laws, pay taxes, defend the nation, and serve on juries.
SS.7.C.2.3: Experience the responsibilities of citizens at the local, state, and federal levels, including voting and community involvement.
SS.7.C.3.12: Analyze the significance and impact of landmark Supreme Court cases, including those related to Japanese American incarceration during WWII, highlighting the impact on civil rights and liberties.
SS.7.C.3.13: Explore the role of individuals and groups in shaping public policy and advancing social justice.

This proposal seeks funding to provide reinforcement snacks for students with emotional and behavioral disabilities (EBD) as part of our specialized intervention programs. While our team of intervention therapists is deeply committed to these students' success, we currently fund many activities, including Fun Fridays, level ceremonies, and lunches for class completion, out of our own pockets. Unfortunately, this has left us without resources for basic reinforcement snacks, which are essential to the success of our program.

Increase Participation: The presence of a drum set in the classroom will captivate students’ interest and ignite their desire to play. This excitement will encourage them to actively participate in music activities, as they will be motivated to earn time on the drum set. The chance to express themselves through rhythm and sound will not only enhance their musical skills but also foster a sense of community as they collaborate and share their passion for music.
Cultural Connection: Incorporate music and drumming styles from the students’ diverse backgrounds (Spanish and Haitian influences) into the curriculum, ensuring that students can relate personally to the material.
Skill Development: Conduct pre- and post-assessments to measure improvements in students' rhythmic skills, coordination, and confidence.
