Goal

Raz-Kids is a dynamic website where students practice reading eBooks anytime, anywhere.

My goal is to integrate Raz-Kids into daily reading centers to promote reading at students' individual reading level and get the youngest of learners excited about reading.

What will be done with my students

Raz-Kids allows students to listen to books being read aloud, read and record themselves for fluency, and answer comprehension questions all based on their individual reading level.

Students will use classroom computers and iPads during reading centers to access Raz-Kids 2 to 3 times per week throughout the school year. Each student has an individual log in which brings him/her to his own dashboard that includes their assigned reading tasks. The eBooks have a variety of fiction and non-fiction at each level. Once in their reading assignments students will listen to stories read to them, read stories to themselves, and answer comprehension questions about the story.

As students have success and their reading level improves, the teacher can easily move him/her into the next reading level.

Benefits to my students

All 130 kindergarten students will benefit by using this program to practice reading, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension anywhere there is Internet access (classroom, home, public library) on a computer, laptop or iPad. This program differentiates for students by not only providing them a variety of on-level books but also the option to have the stories read to them, or for students to read, record, and listen to themselves. After reading students practice comprehension by answering questions about the story.

All 7 kindergarten teachers will benefit by assigning students to specific reading levels appropriate for each student's learning and can easily track progress and address skills students need more practice with.
