Goal
The goal of this grant is to help my second grade students become more proficient in their writing skills. The added illustration piece will help the students to connect text to self while improving their writing skills.
What will be done with my students
Each day I give the students a, "Quick Write and Illustrate" Literacy Center activity. Some examples are, "Today is National Cookie Day", create a new type of cookie. What are the ingredients? What is its name? How would you promote the sale of your cookie? Be sure to include a drawing of your new cookie. I find many examples of quick writes at, http://www.theteacherscorner.net/ daily-writing-prompts/ to ensure creativity and real life writing opportunities.
Benefits to my students
My students will get daily writing practice in a journal that is specially designed for both writing and illustrating. By using these composition books for daily practice my students are more engaged due to the illustration component. This writing/illustration is crucial to both their success and writing confidence.

The composition journals are $1.69 per book and I will need 20 books for a classroom set.
