Goal

The goal of this grant is to provide my Kindergarten students with interactive hardware for the iPad that is currently in our classroom. Osmo is a piece of hardware that turns the iPad into an interactive learning experience. It comes with manipulatives that enhance the learning in math through the use of tangrams and in reading with the use of letter tiles.  

 

What will be done with my students

Whether working independently or with a partner, every student in my Kindergarten class will be provided with the opportunity to use Osmo throughout various times in our day. In math, they will use tangrams to recreate an image they see on the screen. Through different levels of difficulty, each student will be able to develop and strengthen their reasoning and critical thinking skills. While utilizing the language arts game, students will be shown various pictures and must figure out the corresponding vocabulary word. They will then have to use their understanding of the English language to spell the word correctly using the interactive letter tiles. The benefit of using Osmo in the classroom is that students are experiencing learning first hand in a fun and creative way. They are accessing knowledge on multiple levels and utilizing social skills when working in pairs and/or groups.

In language arts, students will enhance their understanding of spelling patterns as well as letter sound correspondence and new vocabulary. The Osmo is a tool that can be used over and over gain for years to come.
