Goal

My goal is to use a great resource from Scholastic in my classroom to help support my curriculum. Many articles are specifically focused on the sixth grade world history curriculum and are high interest for the students. Having this resource and the images it includes will bring ancient history to life for all sixth grade students.

What will be done with my students

Students will use this resource to deepen their learning about specific topics in ancient history such as King Tut's tomb, map reading skills, reinforcing geographic themes, and putting current events into an historical perspective. Students will use this resource in small groups and individually to understand why studying history is so important and will supplement language arts curriculum by focusing on being able to cite evidence from the text and determining main idea.

Benefits to my students

The benefit of adding Junior Scholastic to the classrooms at Manatee Middle School is in supporting our curriculum as well as providing a fantastic resource that is high interest for our students and will keep the students strongly engaged in curriculum that can be considered not important by many students. The benefit will also extend beyond sixth grade social studies classrooms and into our seventh and eighth grade social studies classrooms as well. Junior Scholastic supports Civics and American History curriculum very closely as well.
