Goal

My goal for this grant request for the "Benchmark Assessment System 1, 2nd Edition Grades K-2, Levels A-N", is to be able to have assessment materials in order to correctly acquire a student's instructional and independent reading level. This kit will enable students to be correctly placed with reading materials in order to help them grow into better readers, and not be placed with a text that is at a frustration level. 

 

What will be done with my students

Teachers will use the Benchmark Assessment System 1, 2nd Edition Grades K-2, Levels A-N", throughout the year, in order to correctly pair a child with the right reading level. This kit will be used as a beginning of the year assessment, to help start the child off with a correct level. As new students enter throughout the year, this will help to start those new students off at the correct reading level. As students grow in their reading levels, this kit will be able to assess at the different levels, as the levels grow, in order to ensure that the children are gaining levels, and not regressing. Students will be able to track their progress on data sheets, as they see their reading levels advance. This kit tests word recognition, fluency rate, and comprehension.  

 

Benefits to my students

The Benchmark Assessment System 1, 2nd Edition Grades K-2, Levels A-N" will benefit students as students will be correctly placed at their independent reading level. This will help the students to grow into better readers, as they are not placed with a text that is frustration for them, and too difficult, at which point the would not have a level of success. This will also benefit the students as they will be able to track their progress accurately, for their reading growth. This will benefit the teachers as they will be able to have an accurate level for each child in their class, throughout the year.  

 

Budget Narrative

The Benchmark Assessment System 1, 2nd Edition Grades K-2, Levels A-N" is $388. The shipping is $38.80 and the tax is 23.28. This brings the total to $450.08.
