Goal

The goal of this project is to teach and instill in students relevant job skills that can be utilized in the workforce upon completion of the 2016-17 school year. 

 

What will be done with my students

Students will learn to use Cut Right software that allows the user to set up designs, images, and text on screen then send their work to a vinyl cutter. The vinyl is then prepared to be placed on a sign board, banner, magnet, or wall. Students also learn the basics of running a small business as well as those "soft" skills that employers look for.
 

 

Benefits to my students

In preparing a project, the student must use correct literacy skills, math skills, and a great deal of creativity. It also incorporates the use of technology. The items made in this class are then sold to teachers, coaches, clubs, and organizations.
The students in this program have emotional and behavioral disorders and will probably not go to college. Securing employment will be a challenge. This program gives them real-world, authentic skills that can be used in one of the many local sign shops.
This program is a continuation of Workforce Ready with Real-World Skills that was funded last year. The request is for materials to expand on what we began building last year.
We have one student that left our school and was able to obtain employment at Cecil's Copy Shop in Naples. 

 

Budget Narrative

The majority of the items are various colors of vinyl that will make an nice addition to the colors we can offer. The roll of magnet is used to make large magnets such as those you may see on cars. The transfer tape is necessary item used in the sign making process. As the name implies, it is used to transfer the vinyl from its backing to its destination.
