Goal

To establish monthly book based Makerspaces in the Media Center that will not only encourage STEAM learning, but also reading the Sunshine State Books. 

 

What will be done with my students

Each month a title from the Sunshine State Reading list will be highlighted. Students will be encouraged to read the book so they can earn a ticket to participate in that month's book related Makerspace in the Media Center.
October- I Love You, Michael Collins Makerspace will feature an engineering kit that is the modern equivalent of the erector set used in the book.
November - Ugly cat and Pablo as well as A True Home Makerspace will allow kids to try a mouse coding maze.
December - Overboard! Makerspace will be making ice cream in a bag.
January - Lights, Camera, Cook Makerspace will explore the STEM challenge, "How strong is spaghetti?"
February - Wish Makerspace will use Squishy Circuits to create constellations that light up.
March- Dragons and Marshmallows as well as The Ark Plan Makerspace will be creating dragon/dinosaur eyes through origami art.
April- Lemons as well as Doublecross Makerspace will feature ciphers, puzzles, and clues treasure hunt.  

 

Benefits to my students

Students will be encouraged to:
-investigate at their own pace.
-explore science, technology, engineering, art, math, and reading.
-use their creative thinking skills.
-work independently or in a group to explore learning concepts.
-explain their thinking on what worked and didn't work.

 

 

Budget Narrative

Budget is for supplies to create monthly Makerspaces. All the supplies except for the ice cream ingredients are reusable and can be Makerspaces that encourage STEAM for years to come. 

 

Items
