Goal

As a 3rd and 4th grade ESE Inclusion teacher my goal is to use vocabulary games to engage and motivate my students in a small group setting. Vocabulary is very important to reading comprehension. Students cannot understand what they are reading without knowing what most of the words mean. I will use these games to help my students practice more skills related to vocabulary such as prefixes, root words and suffixes. These changes can affect the meaning of words and students need guidance to understand why this happens. 

 

What will be done with my students

To help my students gain a better understanding of difficult vocabulary, I will provide an intervention in small group settings within their classroom. I will use these vocabulary games as a reinforcement to engage my students with their curriculum content that is aligned with their learning goals.  

 

Benefits to my students

These vocabulary games will benefit my students academically by helping them communicate their ideas and expressing themselves in their writing as well as their reading comprehension. Having word knowledge will help my students comprehend texts used in the classroom as well as State tests. Vocabulary is the foundation for comprehension. Using interactive games will provide an incentive and stimulus for my students to understand vocabulary words. 

 

Budget Narrative

These two vocabulary games will be ordered from Educational Insights and Lake Shore Learning. I have included an estimated amount for shipping and handling.
