Goal

The goal is to help our lowest performers in math reach proficiency as defined by our state standards.

What will be done with my students

We will run a 4th and 5th grade math lab for our lowest performing math students. Selected students will attend their grade level lab for a half hour, three days a week. They will receive support from the math coach on foundational skills needed to be successful in their current grade level. Technology, note-booking and vocabulary will be embedded throughout sessions.

Benefits to my students

There are 40 fifth graders and 40 fourth graders who have been identified as being lowest performing among their peers. These students will have additional math time each day to work on foundational skills they were taught in prior grade levels but have not yet mastered. This will allow students to close the achievement gap and become successful and confident in math. Students will work on hands-on projects to help them make real-world connections to their learning.

Budget Narrative

Notebooks and pencils will be used for interactive note-booking which will focus on vocabulary and exemplar problems. Dry-erase boards and markers will be used as students practice problems in pairs and for quick formative assessments so we can track student progress. Poster board, card stock, and colored pencils will be used for hands on projects where students explain strategies and word problems and create real-life examples.
