Goal

The goal of this field trip is to immerse students in a real-world environment and exposing the students to their natural environment. The goal is to provide students with a unique connection to the curriculum they are learning by taking them out of the classroom and into nature to get a hands-on, relatable experience.

What will be done with my students

During the field trip, students will be able to not only learn but also practice science. This field trip allows students to collect aquatic species for identification, use instruments to evaluate water quality, and engage in scientific inquiry in the Conservancy STEM Lab. They are also able to explore the Dalton Discovery Center and get up close encounters with fish, turtles, alligators etc. (Conservancy of SWFL, 2018).

Benefits to my students

The benefit of outdoor learning environments has great impacts on students and their ability to not only learn information but to connect to it. Overall, there has been a decline in the number of children who experience nature first-hand in modern times (Campen, 2012; House of Commons). This field trip benefits student living in an area with little to no access to experience their natural world around in both an educational and structured form.
