Goal

Each 8th grade student will be able to learn energy transfer though a fun project; paper circuits. With copper foil, batteries, and creativity students will never forget electrical energy transformation.  

 

What will be done with my students

During our energy unit I am challenging students with paper circuits where students can make simple and complex circuits to transform energy in multiple ways. This will take the lessons we learn about energy transformation into the real world as students experiment and innovate to create something new. Past projects have been board games and paper robots. Accompanying the challenge project will be student writing about the engineering process to design and create their projects but also the fundamental understanding of electrical energy and energy transfer to make the circuits work.  

 

Benefits to my students

Our 8th grade students will be able to not only learn how electricity flows and transforms but also solve real-world problems by using these basic supplies to create circuits. This fundamental understanding is necessary for many professions and everyday life now that technology is integrated into our lives. This hands on approach makes an abstract concept easier to understand and more memorable.  

 

Budget Narrative

The paper and crafts supplies are for students to create their own interesting products, toys, and games, using circuitry. Copper foil tape, lights, and coin cell batteries are for constructing working circuits.
