Our school utilizes a Texas Instrument calculator on the lower end of a scientific calculator. Students will use these calculators both in class and on FSA. Working at a Title 1 school students are unable to obtain their own calculators so we provide these calculators when needed to help them become successful in math. They also use this calculator for FSA, however, with the shortage of calculators some students were not given the opportunity to use the calculator they had become accustomed on the test. The students felt their test was impacted negatively due to this issue.

Goal

Our school utilizes a Texas Instrument calculator on the lower end of a scientific calculator. Students will use these calculators both in class and on FSA. Working at a Title 1 school students are unable to obtain their own calculators so we provide these calculators when needed to help them become successful in math. They also use this calculator for FSA, however, with the shortage of calculators some students were not given the opportunity to use the calculator they had become accustomed on the test. The students felt their test was impacted negatively due to this issue.  

 

What will be done with my students

Once these calculators are received, students will have access to them immediately. All students who are allowed to use calculators will have access to them, approximately 734 students.

1. Students will become accustomed to the use of a scientific calculator.

2. Have enough calculators for all students during testing.

3. Streamline the materials for all students to ensure equity.  

 

Benefits to my students

Students will be accustomed the use of the calculator to be successful on FSA. Being successful on FSA will either help our school maintain a school grade of B or increase to an A. All students who use the calculators will also have access to them in class which help them maintain their grade. All math and science teacher will have access to these calculators when needed.
