Goal
The goal is for each student to have an opportunity to handcraft a ceramic mug on the pottery wheel and glaze it for functional use.
What will be done with my students
Each student will be taught the basic skill of throwing clay on the pottery wheel. We are fortunate to have 3 functional wheels setup for classroom use! I have experience throwing and love sharing that knowledge with my students.
Benefits to my students
Students will have a greater understanding and appreciation of functional art forms. Many students choose to register for Ceramics in High School after experiencing throwing clay in Middle School.
The tactile sensation of working with clay is very soothing. Working with clay can be especially beneficial to students suffering from anxiety, because of its therapeutic properties.
Budget Narrative
Ceramic supplies are expensive and often ceramic projects are the first to get cut because of that expense. The first 2 items are glazes, the third item is the clay, and the rest of the items are accessories.
