Goal

To create a GCHS Community garden that will cross curricula, special interest clubs and community on a 20'x20' Green Space. (already approved by administration!) To serve as a
Science/ Cross Curricular/ Club Interactive Interest Group

What will be done with my students

Our plan is to craft, from the ground up, 6 raised beds to grow herbs (for Culinary), veggies (to try something new!) and flowers (to use for fundraising with SGA!) - just to get started. This project requires a variety of skills - carpenters, cultivators, visionaries, gardeners, potters ( I have students making pots & plaques in pottery, in fact), planters, harvesters, waterers, weeders, quality control, inventory maintenance and a paperwork patrol! We will be working around the curriculum outlined by Florida Agriculture in the Classroom and participating in Lesson pre and post test results from one lesson in FAITC’s Gardening for Grades, Gardening for Nutrition or STEMming Up Gardening.

Benefits to my students

Biological, Earth, Life, Health and Nutrition Sciences all will play a part in the "Learn as We Grow" experience!
Participation in this club will benefit students in arenas such as: Social/Emotional development, Scientific, Math, Service-Oriented, Risk-taking, Mistake-Making, Self-Esteem, Community-Building, Hands-on Experience, Teamwork, Patience, Persistence and Perseverance!

Budget Narrative

I have included all tools essential remaining to secure a successful start up for this endeavor, though this total exceeds the grant amount, I thought it suitable to leave the opportunity available to you to choose the supplies you might care to furnish. Of note, perhaps worth mentioning, I am the Collier County 2019 Teacher of the Year and I am eager to introduce this project to GCHS. I thank you for your consideration!!
