Goal

The goal of this project is to increase engineering students' exposure to a variety of rapid prototyping processes by providing access to a resin-based 3D Printer 

 

What will be done with my students

The Immokalee High School Academy of Engineering focuses on manufacturing and robotics, and the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year engineering courses expose students to a wide variety of manufacturing processes. One of the rapid prototyping tools currently available in these units is a traditional filament-based 3D Printer. This project would increase student exposure by providing a resin-based 3D printer. Students will be able to print models of parts that they create in the courses' 3D modeling software. 

 

Benefits to my students

Resin-based 3D printers have a higher degree of detail and can print more intricate projects, but require a different approach when designing the model. Students will be able to study design for manufacturing as it relates to different styles of 3D Printing, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of each.  

 

Budget Narrative

The primary expense is an Elegoo Mars Resin 3D Printer. A sample of 5 different colors of UV resin, a total of 3,500 grams, is also included on the list. This amount of resin should accommodate students in this year's engineering courses.
