Goal
To give autistic students a hands on approach to learning using learning centers and to help students achieve their social/emotional, academic, communication, and independent functioning IEP (Individualized Educational Plan) goals to 80% accuracy over the 2019-2020 school year.
What will be done with my students
The students will use the hands on learning activities everyday. There are 7 students and 2 teachers in this self-contained classroom that will use these materials each day and many more students that will use these resources in the years to come.
Students will improve fine motor skills and social/emotional skills while interacting with peers and adults using the learning center activities. The students can work independently or in small groups to complete sensory activities and improve academic skills.
The teachers will be responsible for guiding students to use the materials correctly and also collect data on how well they are mastering their IEP goals.
Benefits to my students
Students in my class are mostly autistic and benefit from hands on learning activities where they can learn through their senses and develop fine motor skills. They will also engage in peer interactions while doing the hands on learning centers which will improve social/emotional and communication skills. These hands on learning activities will help students sharpen academic skills and gain confidence. Students are projected to improve in social/emotional, communication, independent functioning, and academic skills while working to master their IEP goals in these specific areas. Students will work to meet their IEP goals to 80% accuracy over the course of the 2019-2020 school year.
