Goal

The goal of this grant is to create a STEM station within my classroom. My goal is for students to interact with technology and STEM games daily. Each day within the classroom, students will be exposed to hands on learning through the use of technology. I also hope to promote excitement for learning through technology and STEM games.  

 

What will be done with my students

Three different students will visit the STEM station each day during reading centers, math centers, and morning stations. Students will use the iPads to play a variety of Osmo STEM games. These games will help students meet a variety of standards and develop lifelong skills such as spelling, number identification, shapes, critical thinking, pre-reading ABC skills, creativity as well as imagination. The requirements placed on young students is increasing each year. Through technology and STEM games, I hope to make mastering challenging skills engaging and fun. I hope these iPads and Osmo games will bring back a sense of play within my classroom while still helping my young students learn vital skills. This year these materials will impact 20 students. I hope to use these materials for several years. Over the course of 5 school years, these materials could impact up to 100 students.  

 

Benefits to my students

Students will benefit form the iPads and Osmo games because they will be exposed to STEM skills daily. These items will enable students to use and develop creativity, imagination, and critical thinking skills they would not otherwise encounter in the general education classroom. Technology plays a huge part in our environment and these games and iPads would allow my students to become familiar with technology at a young age. My hope is to prepare my students to be successful not just in my classroom, but once they leave the walls of my classroom as well. These STEM games and technology will help me be successful at meeting this goal. While these games serve as a vital educational tool, they are also fun and engaging. Kindergarten is the year to develop a child's love for learning. I strongly believe that these iPads and Osmo games will help ignite excitement for learning in my students. I plan to use these grant resources with my 20 students this year as well as future years. These materials could help up to 100 students over the course of 5 school years. I plan to assess the benefit of these materials through classroom surveys as well as Osmo performance assessments.  

 

Budget Narrative

This budget will be used to purchase two approved iPads (299.00 each) as well as Osmo STEM games including the Little Genius kit + case for Ipad (109.00), Osmo Pizza Co, and Complete Coding family. I will also use this money to purchase cases for each iPad to protect and help them last for several years.
