Goal

The grant funds will be used to make books out of each individual student's historical journal. I would like a book for each student and a classroom set to show future students.

What will be done with my students

I teach Intensive Reading and English Language Arts. This a historical year in our country. My students are writing Historical Journals to record these events: corona virus, social unrest, hurricanes, fires out west to mention a few. My students will research these topics and record their findings, they will record their opinions and responses to these events, They will interview family and family friends about these events. All of this will be recorded in their Historical Journal. This project will be a part of our entire school year. Students will research, formulate interview questions, summarize data, record their findings in written form, and edit their writing. Each class has decided on their goal for this year: working toward a higher score on the FSA so they can be out of intensive and benefit from the options at the high school. As a group we are determined to be proactive and work with the end in mind to complete our Historical Journals. This is a historical year. Providing students with an actual book as the finished product of their hard work will give them additional incentive to make this project a success. The books will be our celebration of every student's hard work. The following are some of the Standards met with this project:
LAFS.8.W.2.4, 2.5, 2.6
LAFS.8.W.3.8, 3.9

Benefits to my students

Student will learn how to research, interview, write and edit. By providing my students with a book of their Historical Journals give my students the incentive to work hard to make this the best Historical Journal ever. It also provides ownership of the project as they will end the school year with something tangible that represents their hard work. I have listed some of the standards that are a part of this project. More than anything they are excited about writing a Historical Journal, a book they can own at the end of the school year. I don't believe in rewards, I believe in celebrating accomplishments. Providing books of each student's journal is a celebration.

Budget Narrative

This provides a book for each student and a book for my classroom.
