Goal

The goal of this project is to help expand the play skills of students with disabilities by providing them opportunities to engage in a variety of play-based activities. 

 

What will be done with my students

Play is a critical milestone that contributes to the learning and development of children with disabilities in multiple ways and it is essential to their well-being. Children with disabilities are at distinct disadvantage when it comes to play. It is often difficult for students with physical limitations, visual impairments, and cognitive disabilities to participate in play-based activities. It is very difficult to find appropriate leisure/recreational activities for my students to engage in and interact with independent of adult support. Through this project, my students will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of sensory-based play activities while learning functional skills and increasing their independence.

1. Students will develop fine motor skills to access a variety of switch accessible toys.
2. Students will develop visual attention and tracking skills.
3. Students will develop cause and effect skills.
4. Students will increase their cognitive engagement.
