Goal

The students will utilize their Python Programming knowledge to code and program the Micro:Bit. The goal is to acquire 30 Micro-Bits so students can work individually to program them. 

 

What will be done with my students

The BBC Micro:Bit is a pocket-sized computer that introduces how software and hardware work together. It has an LED light display, buttons, sensors and many input/output features that, when programmed, let it interact with the student and the world.

This projects covers two major state standards in the Programming Essentials course. The first one is 58.0 (Code Programs) and 59.0 (Test Programs). The students would be learning and having fun at the same time. 

 

Benefits to my students

The expected outcomes would include college and career readiness skills as well as the state standards that were previously mentioned. The students would see first-hand how their coding is affecting the Micro-Bit and how it reacts to their programming.

The Micro-Bits would be utilized starting in January once the students have some Python Programming instruction and practice. They would also be used annually (approximately 30 students per year) by the programming students and the "Girls Who Code" club.
