Goal
The goal of this project is to increase student engagement and motivation in reading using the fifteen SSYRA (Sunshine State Young Reader Association) novels.
What will be done with my students
This project will expose students to a variety of fiction novels. All 15 books will be available to all students throughout the 21-22 school year. Students will be encouraged to read 10 of the books and be given small incentives/rewards for their accomplishments. Furthermore it will allow them to study different authors writing styles and craft connecting closely with both the 4th grade reading and writing standards.. Furthermore, the project will include book clubs and collaboration. The SSYRA books are considered high quality literature that are selected for their “wise appeal, literature value, varied genre, curriculum connection, and multicultural representation”.
Benefits to my students
Students will read 10 of the 15 SSYRA books through the 21/22 school year. They will choose a book to be a member of a book club with and collaborate with their peers. Students will make either a movie trailer, 2D art, or other creative expression that represents a book of their choice to be considered for the HCPS SLAM (Student Literacy and Media) showcase.
