Goal
To use Scholastic Science World magazines in station rotations to support literacy in science and science in literacy.
What will be done with my students
Scholastic Science World magazines provide high interest science articles and science activities that can be used as centers in our science classrooms. The goal is to help students become more proficient science readers in order to perform at or above standard on the 8th grade SSA test.
Students will have the magazines available through science center based rotations that focus on both reading informational text and science concepts.
Benefits to my students
The benefit to our students are that we have a high population of struggling readers. Any way we can support literacy outside of the English Language Arts classrooms will benefit our students greatly. By providing high interest articles they will also help engage students in real world uses of science that they may not know about.
Budget Narrative
We have 3 science teachers per grade level. Each teacher would get a set of 10 magazines to use in center rotations and each grade level would get one set of teacher resources.
