Goal

This project aims to purchase world history atlases (28) and US history atlases(28) as supplemental materials for our 6th-8th grade grade social studies classrooms at Progress Village Middle Magnet of the Performing Arts. Our current atlases are outdated or falling apart.  

 

What will be done with my students

Students will be able to use the atlases to better understand the timelines of the BCE/CE time periods we study, enhance their geography skills and spatial awareness, and reading text features to gain a deeper understanding of US and World history. Students love the content rich information the atlases provide and the graphics and visuals that support the text and students of all ability levels. Computer access is not always easily available, so the paper-back atlases will help support geography skills when the computer labs are not available.

The Atlas engages students with hands-on tools and literacy lessons, helping them visualize history, expand content knowledge, and build powerful skills. 

 

Benefits to my students

The atlases will help our entire social studies department enhance geography skills and global awareness. This atlas focuses on ancient world history and can be used to supplement the curriculum and teach state standards for 6th grade and a great transition from Ancient Greece and the birth of democracy and our country today. We can use the data from our district pre and post tests and examine the growth on the geography- benchmarks to determine if the have helped improve student growth.
