Goal
My goal is to provide my 3rd grade students the opportunity to observe and learn from seeing the chicken life cycle first-hand. Students will learn about the development happening inside the chicken eggs, be able to watch the hatching process, and experience caring for baby chicks.
What will be done with my students
Students will learn about and experience the life cycle of chickens first-hand. The investigation will take place in the spring, during our science unit on animal life cycles, and animal changes. The materials will be reused yearly, allowing multiple groups of students the ability to participate in learning.
Benefits to my students
Students will be able to describe the development of the chicken inside and outside of the egg. They will learn how chickens grow and change during their life cycle. They will then share their learning by creating presentations to be shared with other students and adults at the school.
Budget Narrative
Items purchased with this grant will include an incubator, pen for hatched chicks, bedding, food, water and feeder, and brooder heater.
