Goal
Improve reading through the use of story in the music room.
What will be done with my students
Our school had a large decline in the reading portion of the statewide testing. As a music teacher who reaches every single student in the school, I would like to incorporate reading into more of my lessons. Through this grant, I can purchase books that are targeted to grade levels and reading levels of my students and also highlight music standards and SEL (social emotional learning).
Benefits to my students
By using books and stories to add an additional element of learning in the music room, I can assist with school reading achievements and provide schoolwide support in the area of reading and comprehension to all of our students.
