Goal

Our classroom goal is to have 100% of students actively engaged while I am teaching. One way to achieve this goal is by utilizing the online platform program entitled, “Pixton;” which is a comic and storyboard builder for education. This program allows me to differentiate instruction for each student and provide individual feedback on their individual projects.  

 

What will be done with my students

I am an Art Educator, and we plan on utilizing Pixton across 6-8 grade levels in my classes. Pixton allows teachers and students to construct their own comic strips. There are a variety of comic strip layouts, numerous character and background choices, and a ton of creative options. The 2020-21 school year I personally purchased this software and 2021-22 school year we received a Champions for Learning Grant and 2022-23 we would like to continue what we have started by using Pixton. The students loved creating stories and elaborating on stories that we read in class (the students were asked to extend their thinking and change the outcome of the story that we read). In addition, the students can interact with one another to promote the power of collaborative thinking. This allows students to interact and develop comic stories and have firsthand experience with creating virtual situations where they can also practice appropriate social and emotional behaviors.  

 

Benefits to my students

With the addition of access to technology it is more important than ever to find ways to engage the students on their level. Also, the students need to expand their understanding and usage of appropriate educational learning platforms.
