Goal

The goal of this grant is to improve the reading skills of my students. There are several components that students must learn in order to be able to read on or above grade level. This grant focuses on the skill of fluency.  

 

What will be done with my students

In order for students to be able to comprehend what they are reading, they first need to learn how to be fluent. We call that fluency. When students are able to fluently read, then they are able to focus on comprehension and not on sounding out words. All CCPS students have access to Microsoft Teams on their individual laptops. There is a fluency component that all students can use to practice their fluency. It is a great way for them to improve their individual fluency. This same program provides reports for teachers to monitor each student's fluency ability and growth. The only thing missing is headphones and microphones. Students need noise canceling headphones and microphones in order record their reading, listen back, understand their errors and then improve. 

 

Benefits to my students

In order for a student to become a proficient reader, he has to first become a fluent reader. This grant will enable all students to practice their fluency and therefore enhance their reading skills. These headphones will be used this school year and future years.  

 

Budget Narrative

Ten headphones will be purchased for $22.00 each. The headphones will be utilized all year by all students.
