Goal

My goal is to provide a gathering place where students regularly meet to build community and learn through the purchase of a classroom rug.  

 

What will be done with my students

As a kindergarten teacher, one of my top priorities is to ensure students leave my classroom each day with the desire to return the following school day. For so many students, this will be their first experience in an educational environment. I have the opportunity to set the tone for the rest of their educational career—to establish a classroom where each student feels safe, valued, and respected. In the kindergarten classroom, so much of the culture and climate is created and maintained while sitting in close proximity to others on a classroom rug. A classroom rug is a meeting place—a place to come together to greet each other, share stories, solve conflicts, and support one another. In addition to class meetings, daily content area instruction occurs while gathered on the classroom rug.  

 

Benefits to my students

With the addition of a classroom rug, the students in my kindergarten classroom—both present and future, will have a meeting place to gather, support, and learn.
