Goal

To expand a garden environment to allow students to study life science and use scientific tools while learning about abiotic factors that can impact living things.

What will be done with my students

During the year, as they study about living things, they will occasionally visit the garden and use scientific tools to see the impact of the environment on living things, while experimenting on plants and learn key vocabulary and concepts relating to their grade level.
Throughout the year, students can also use part of the garden area to complete scientific investigations related to plant growth (i.e.) come up with hypotheses related to plant growth, perform experiment, get data using scientific tools and make conclusion based on these experiments.

Benefits to my students

First, I believe that students will gain a better understanding of science and scientific inquiry and learning. Second, they will get a greater appreciation and interest in science activities. Moreover, students may gain a greater interest in careers related to plants and trees as well as science. Hopefully, this learning opportunity may also peak interest in job opportunities in fields probably unknown from them.

Budget Narrative

With this grant, I will be able to get more students involved with the garden club at the school site while learning bout life science, tools that scientists use and different related fields in science.
