Goal

The goal of this project is to provide students with simple wooden vehicle models to practice their measurement, 3D modeling, and crafting skills. 

 

What will be done with my students

The Introduction to Engineering Design course is the first course of the Immokalee High School Engineering Academy, where students learn sketching, measurement, and 3D modeling. This project will purchase small wooden vehicle sets for students to use as practice components for measurement and modeling. Students will then be able to sand and paint their model to personalize it using the Elements and Principles of Design. 

 

Benefits to my students

The wooden components used in these models are made up of basic geometric shapes, which provides students with the ability to develop their basic measurement and 3D modeling skills in the introductory course. Additionally, the ability to then decorate and personalize their models will increase student engagement and serve as a foundation as they move on to more challenging modeling projects. 

 

Budget Narrative

96 sets of the Woodshop Build and Play model kits provide enough sets for all Introduction to Engineering Design students, with 6 additional sets that can be used as spare parts in case any get damaged over the course of the project. The acrylic paint set and brushes supplement the paint supplies in the engineering lab to accommodate this project.
