Goal

My goal is to provide my students with an alternative way to express their learning beyond paper and pencil, written response, or multiple-choice questions.

What will be done with my students

Phase 1: I will start by introducing students to well executed educational podcasts made specifically for students through the Listen Wise subscription. This will provide the exposure students need to fully understand how to effectively create a podcast while practicing academic skills.

Phase 2: Students will work through the entire process of starting their own podcast, working through naming the podcast and creating an opening and closing jingle with Sound Trap subscription. The podcast content will be based on discussion questions tied to the current text and the Unit Essential Questions in their McGraw-Hill textbook.

A new podcast will be created at the end of each text to allow students a chance to connect the skills and content to the standards through an organic conversation. They will be guided by a list of questions to ensure that they are hitting the expected targets.

Benefits to my students

Students will benefit from this grant because it gives them another option to prove that they're learning. This gives students who thrive on oral presentation an opportunity to gain confidence in their knowledge. It also helps them remain connected with the advances in technology while practicing grade level skills and soft skills they use in almost every industry. These podcasts will benefit not only my students, but students in our school and across our district as the conversations are shared with others. These conversations will be beneficial skills reviews as well as models of effective collaborative conversations in a secondary classroom.

Budget Narrative

The budget includes equipment need for high quality audio and video production of the podcast. It also includes the software needed to edit podcasts and the subscription to the educational podcast library that will expose the students to well executed education podcasts.
