Goal
My goal is to create a love of reading within students by encourage students to read Sunshine State Young Readers Award winning books and participate in our Food Truck Rally to celebrate their reading accomplishments.
What will be done with my students
This project benefits students by helping establish a love of reading within them. Alongside our Media Specialist, we read the SSYRA, JR. books to our Pre-K through 2nd grade students. Upon completion of reading all the books, students vote for their favorite. Once a winner has been established, students create an edible tasty project that goes along with that book. For our 3rd-5th graders, we encourage them to independently read the SSRYA books. Once they complete the book, they answer questions about it, and are then issued a ticket to our Food Truck Rally. The food truck rally includes food, drinks and a dessert that corresponds with the books. The food is even served from our life-sized cardboard cutout of a food truck. This project will help fund the food, supplies and materials for the project.
Benefits to my students
Students iReady Reading comprehension scores will increase by 15% as a result of these Reading incentives.
Budget Narrative
These materials will help us offset the cost in the Food Truck Rallys :)
