Thank you to the following investor for funding this grant.
Spurlino Foundation - $765.00
Goal
The students in the Access rooms are accustomed to receiving computer time during free time. However, they need time to interact with their classmates, peer buddies, and teachers to develop social skills and friendships.
What will be done with my students
The students will learn to share, take turns, and interact with each other during Social Emotional learning. It will alleviate arguments and hurt feelings. According to research, Sharing is a fundamentally essential skill for students with Autism. However, they struggled to share without meaningful positive interactions. Also, it will help to advance their skills in problem-solving without resorting to negative interactions with peers. Research indicates screen time impairs a student's ability to develop creative thinking and imagination. With a variety of interactive games and sensory-motor activities, the students will begin to develop advanced social skills.
Benefits to my students
The students will learn social skills through social-emotional directed play with board games, lego, books, and Play-Doh. Board games are essential because they teach turn-taking and sharing. The students will build with Play-Doh using communication skills and fine motor. Lego creates an opportunity to express creativity, problem-solving skills, and teamwork. They can make Lego towns and interact with Lego men. By the end of the year, they will have strengthened their social skills and problem-solving.
