Goal

One of my goals this year is to support and strengthen the connection and relationship between families and the school. When families feel supported, students feel supported. And when students feel supported, they are more likely to be successful in and outside of the classroom.

What will be done with my students

My goal is to host three Parent Connection Events this school year. There will be one event per quarter where students and their families are invited to Gulfview Middle School in the evening to participate in a fun evening together. The themes for each event are:

Event 1 (November): Sweets at the Silver Screen
Students and their families are invited to campus to enjoy a holiday movie and desserts (decorate your own sugar cookies, cupcakes, and more)

Event 2 (February): Blacktop Bash
Students and their families are invited to campus for a Pizza Dinner and Lawn Games. Families can enjoy a kids vs. Adults Kickball game, Flag Football, and more.

Event 3 (April): Ice Cream and Trivia
Students and their families are invited to campus for Trivia Night and ice cream sundaes. Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams.

Benefits to my students

When parents have a positive relationship with their child's school, students succeed. In fact, a recent student published by Johns Hopkins University showed that students whose parents stay actively involved in their education and foster open communication with their child's school do better in school and demonstrate a higher attendance rate, better social skills, and an increased graduation rate.

Budget Narrative

This is planning for 40 families to attend each event for three total events, each event averaging 200 people per event (4 people/family registered).
$3/family will be charged at time of registration to help supplement costs of supplies
