Goal
My goal at Heritage Elementary is for every student to have impactful and effective learning opportunities during their science instruction with hands on materials and experiments.
What will be done with my students
In fourth grade, students learn the science standard SC.4.L.17.3: Trace the flow of energy from the Sun as it is transferred along the food chain through the producers to the consumers. An engaging way to teach this standard is to dissect owl pellets. Students make observations and inferences as they break apart the owl pellet and discover what this consumer may have eaten.
Benefits to my students
If awarded, my goal is that fourth graders at Heritage Elementary can successfully explain that all animals get their energy from eating plants or other animals. Students will take a standards quiz and my goal is for 75% of the students to score above a 70% for this standard.
