Goal

The goal of this project is to have art students in grades 4 and 5 experience new sculptural materials such as soft sculpture, paris craft and wire sculpture. Art students at PME have had a few experiences with papier mache sculpture, these new opportunities will expand their knowledge of sculpture.

What will be done with my students

Students in grades 4 and 5 will look at sculptures from various periods in history and cultures. The art students will have the opportunity to work in various sculptural materials including paris craft, and wire sculpture. Students will see demonstrations on how to make an armature and cover it will paris craft. Art students will also see demonstrations on building a wire sculpture. students will plan and then construct their own wire sculpture. Fourth and fifth grade art students will plan and create their own individual sculptural works.

Benefits to my students

Art students at Pelican Marsh are very creative and diligent workers. Exposure to new (for them) sculptural materials will expand their understanding of sculpture, both from a historical and cultural perspective. In addition, the opportunity to work in these new materials will provide them with learning opportunities which support the Florida State Art Learning Standards.

Budget Narrative

this budget will provide the needed supplies for students to expand their learning in the area of sculpture. Fourth and Fifth grade students will create 3 dimensional sculptures in both wire and paris craft. This budget allows for the purchase of the needed sculpture supplies.
