Goal
My goal is to increase students' knowledge and understanding how to save and spend money using a Debit System and Class Dojo as the Bank.
What will be done with my students
Students will earn Tiger Buck (our school's PBIS) monetary program for students. I take the bucks to the next level by creating a Dojo Savings/Debit account for each student. When students receive Tiger Bucks they write their name on and put them in a "Deposit Box" in our classrooms. Currently I add the bucks to each student's account. Students can earn money as an individual and/or class. Eventually the students will take over making deposit's and purchases in our system. Tiger Bucks are a school-wide system for students in Pre K-5th grade. Eventually I would like my students to take turns acting as cashiers in Pawmart, our school store.
Benefits to my students
This system will help to encourage financial literacy in my students. They will understand how to make purchases and save money using this deposit/debit system. Another advantage to my students is the ability to add and subtract from accounts online. My students will have experience running our school store called Pawmart as well as our Class Depot.
Describe the Students
I am a 4th grade teacher at a Title I school. My students are a mixture of ELL and general education students. Our previous year FAST math scores showed a low 37% proficiency rate at the end of 3rd grade. It is imperative that I find ways to encourage growth in mathematics in my students. This is a very high interest topic for students.
Our students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds.
Budget Narrative
The budget I am seeking is to try to buy small and gradually increasing prices of items to sell in our Class Depot. We also have a school-wide program using our Tiger Bucks called Pawmart. It is a room filled with items for student purchases anywhere from $1 to $50 Tiger Bucks. I would like to help fund Pawmart (our school-wide program) as well as our Class Depot.
